Christmas Wreath Making

Every year since we have lived in Dorset as Advent approaches, I’ve taken the dogs on their usual walk through the woods and gathered trailing ivy and holly and made a couple of wreaths for the door.  I was always pretty happy with the results.  I never used wire, the greenery was simply wound round and round and added to.

Recently the florist Sweetpea opened up at number 40, next to us.  Laura, who owns Sweetpea, does lots of classes through the year including Christmas wreath making, so I thought we should all have a go.  We went along to her studio and listened to her careful instructions.

I realise now that the key to the success of a professional looking wreath is to use a base.  By wiring moss to a base and adding greenery, the wreath takes on a much more amazing look.  I added green foliage including bay and then added some cinnamon sticks.  I was pretty pleased with what I’d done and even 6 weeks before Christmas, it’s on the door.
